BRIEF HISTORY

It is not very often that you encounter a band composed of 5 sisters mentored no less than by their musically talented father. They came from very humble beginnings from Binan, Laguna province. In April 18, 1996, Juanito Villanueva Jr. or “Jun”, father to the 5-sister band “Daughters 5” initially organized his four teenage daughters (Jury, April, Apple, and Queency) to form a band. He taught his daughters to sing and play different musical instruments - Jury learned the piano, April and Apple learned the guitar, and Queency learned to play the drums. Twinkle the youngest was still too young then. Jun teamed up with his four daughters and formed the “Assets Band”. Two weeks later they were invited to play in town fiestas and provincial events. In March 2002, Twinkle, the youngest sibling took up short lessons in playing the violin at the University of Santo Tomas. She soon joined her siblings in the band. They started to perform professionally in local gigs around Metro Manila and did Out-of-Town shows for politicians and corporate events. Some of their musical influences are the Beatles, Spice Girls, Corrs, Queen, Carpenters, Earth Wind & Fire, Santana, Wilson Philips, Bangles, Go-Go’s and many others. Later the band name was changed to “The Daughters Band”. They got discovered by foreign entertainment markets when they performed in Korea and Indonesia. They got a break when a US based producer named John Probandt discovered and financed the band to have their own music recording which was digitally mastered in the Nashville, USA. Mr. Tony Butala of the famous “The Lettermen” while performing in Manila heard and noticed the talented Daughters Band and initiated an email exchange for possible future project development. Last August 2010, the Villanueva Sisters found out that a band in the United States named “The Daughters” had been recording music since 2002. This prompted the Villanueva Sisters and their proud dad to renamed their group -”Daughters 5” band.
